Does Calorie Restriction Really Prolong Life?

Does Calorie Restriction Really Prolong Life?

Whenever people talk about calories, it’s always negative in tone. I’ve already heard a lot of people complain about calorie levels and modern medicine have reminded us time and again about the importance of calorie restriction.

Calorie restriction (or calorie control, according to some people) is a regimen that involves controlling the amount of food that you consume in order to bring down your calorie level to a more desirable degree.

People who want to bring down their weight use calorie restriction all the time, since it is effective if done properly.

However, there’s been a debate regarding its efficiency. Some experts agree that calorie restriction does not apply to everyone and that it can also cause health problems when done continously.

3 Less-Known Weight Loss Diets That Work

weight loss tipsWith women generally having more body fat than men, weight loss can prove difficult. Here are some tips to overcome the difficulty and find success!

There is a wide world of options out there when it comes to ways to lose weight. Many of these options are offered specifically to women.

There are various diets, exercise programs, and even surgical options all aimed at a woman’s desire to lose weight. You may feel overwhelmed as you try to sort them all out in an effort to decide which ones are right for you.

We’re here to help. For now, we’re going to focus on diets. We’ll take a look at the various diets that are out there and consider their pros and cons in an effort to help you decide which one might be best for you.

The DASH Diet

The DASH diet can be particularly effective for older women. Because it’s one of the healthier and safer options, people with heart disease or high blood pressure that want to lose weight are often encouraged to pursue this particular option. The basic idea behind the DASH diet is that you should consume fewer calories than you burn. There are resources to help you track this, so you don’t end up with surpluses or deficits. If you follow this diet, you will also be reducing your intake of sugars, salt, red meat, and fat.

The Slim-Fast Weight Loss Program

This is a pretty famous option, thanks to the extensive television campaign that has been used to advertise. It has proven quite effective for many people, and it’s best suited for women who need to lose more than twenty pounds.

Based on a 1200 calorie diet, this program features products which you consume in lieu of two of your daily meals, leaving you free to consume up to five hundred calories for dinner. Medical professionals have evaluated this diet and deemed it both healthy and safe.

The Seventeen Day Diet

Similarly to the slim-fast weight loss program, the seventeen day diet is commercially available. This program is finite, and is geared simply toward weight loss, as opposed to a permanent lifestyle change.

Its name is a bit of a misnomer, as it actually consists of four phases, each of which last its own seventeen days, for a total of sixty-eight. The seventeen day diet’s phases are called ìcycles.î

This diet is not for everyone, but it can be followed by a majority of women without any major problems. It’s best to consult a physician before you begin any diet plan.

There are a number of other considerations when it comes to weight loss besides just diet. This is true of both men and women. Diet is the most pertinent factor, and it’s what most people think of first when they initially begin considering weight loss options.

The second one most people think of is equally important, and that’s an exercise regimen. If yours has so far been an inactive lifestyle, you’re going to want to change that. For most people, finding a diet plan that works for them along with an exercise regimen they can commit themselves to will be all it takes to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Lose 7 pounds in 7 days

My friend is still waiting for her “magic diet pills” to come in the mail, for those that want to lose weight without the use of pills or other substances, there is some good news.  I am going to tell you how to lose 7 pounds in 7 days.  Everyone can do this, here is how:

Eat Breakfast-  I am sure you have heard this before but this is one of the best ways to jump start your metabolism and get your body ready to start burning fat for the day.  Eating breakfast also helps to balance your sugar levels and helps you go into a carb craving binge later on in the day.

Protein and no carbs.  I am not telling you to give up cards forever, but if you stay away from them for a week and replace carbs with protein you will lose at least 7 pounds in 7 days and probably much more.  Carbs are bad for a lot of reasons, obviously we know that they turn to sugar and then fat but they also are “empty” in the sense that they will not provide us with the feeling of being full and satisfied.  Protein on the other hand, is more satisfying and fills us up.  Protein also takes more energy for our body to digest so we actually burn more fat by digesting the protein.

Snack, Snack, Snack- You have my permission to snack oftern, you should eat healthy snacks every 2 hours.  This will boost your metabolism and also help stop you from overeating during your main meals.  The key here is”HEALTHY” snacks.  Don’t kid yourself here, you know what is healthy and what is not.  My favorites are peanut butter and apples, sometimes together.

Pump up your work outs.  You do not need to work out like a crazy person, but you do need to work out.  Three 30 minutes sessions per week should work well.  The trick here is to make these work outs intense.  You should be moving constantly druring these workouts to pump up your heart rate.  Here is what I do.  I do the elliptical for 10 minutes to get things going, I then rotate between pushups, crunches and jump roping for the next 20 minutes strait.  It is not as hard as it seems.

If you follow this advice, you will lose 7 pounds in 7 days.

Let me know how it works out for you.. Visit these health sites for generic drugs information – Generic Cialis Pharmacy, Buy Cialis Online, Buy Viagra Online.

ACAI Diet

I am happy to report that I am feeling great, it did take me a little while to recover from the colon cleansing situation.  I have been getting back into the flow of exercising regularly and have been getting back into Yoga in a big way.  I am actually thinking about becoming a certified Yoga instructor.  I am starting to seriously look into it but I am not sure if I have the time right now.

Anyway, the point of this post is to let you know that my friend has finally selected the brand of ACAI “pills” to buy.  I was very surprised as I looked into this her that there were some many choices out there.  I naively thought that there was one source to get the berry.

There are literally over a hundred different companies that market this product.  I looked at the ingredients on many of them and they all seem to contain the same active ingredients.

Here is a link to the product that she selected:
Acai Berry Select

She based her decision on some positive reviews and the fact that she was able to get a free trial.

Nothing else to report, she ordered it yesterday.  I will let you know when she starts the program so you can follow along.

ACAI Diet- Does it work?

Posted by on Feb 26, 2009

As a nutritionist I have been inundated with questions about ACAI berry, what is it? Does it work?  Is it safe?  I have decided to write about this topic for the next 30 days on my blog.  I will not be partaking in the acai diet, I instead will be using my good friend Julie as the human guinea pig.  I figured it would make sense for me to start off with the basics.

ACAI berry is a berry that is indigenous to the Brazilian rainforest.  It has become all the rage lately thanks to the book by Dr. Perricone and Opera.  As you know if Opera is behind it, it will be a winner (think, Obama!) This berry is being touted as the most nutritious food on Earth.  The berry is supposed to help aid weight loss and it is now the latest diet craze out there right now.   Does it work?  I am not sure, but I will have a better idea in 30 days.  Stayed tuned for the ACAI Experiment.”

If you can’t wait 30 days and want to try it out for yourself now, this is the site I used, seems to be the best deal out there.

Make small changes to your diet

Make small changes to your diet

rawnutsA couple of days ago, in response to a readers email question, I shared with you what I eat  on a daily basis .  I understand that my plan will not work for everyone.  I want to suggest that you start by making some small changes to your daily intake and then go from there.  Here are a couple of things you can change right now that will make a huge difference.

Switch to water.  Start drinking water instead of everything else, cut out all soda, juice, beer, wine, alcohol, etc…I do drink coffee but black only.

Start eating whole grains instead of bread made with white flour.  Switch from white rice to brown rice. Switch from regular pasta to whole grain pasta.  This minor change will make a major difference.

Snack on raw nuts.  My favorite snack is raw nuts.  Raw nuts are high in protein and are also great for your cardiovascular system.  The best part is that they tell your brain that you are getting full and satisfied so it helps you eat less.

Let’s start there and see how it goes.

Still waiting for my colon cleanser to come…….
